The Hurricane Law Group was founded by Paul Berger more than a decade ago to help Floridians recover from the devastation that is caused by a hurricane. The sole focus of our practice is hurricane law and assessing hurricane damages. Paul is licensed and trained as both an attorney and a public insurance adjuster. Combining these skills makes Paul uniquely qualified for the complexity of large losses, and he has provided both causation and valuation determinations on a wide variety of structures including hotels, office buildings, gas stations, municipal buildings, shopping centers and residential properties. Paul has helped his clients recover tens of millions of dollars in additional insurance proceeds.

Paul’s reputation and skills has earned him the ability to a wide range of clientele and he has personally provided legal or adjusting services to more than a thousand clients, including representing the Deputy Director of the Hurricane Research Division at NOAA on his personal hurricane claim to large loss adjusting with Lloyds of London.

Paul’s legal work has been featured in numerous newspapers including the Miami Herald, Palm Beach Post, and the Wall Street Journal and he has appeared on most major television networks. Paul served of the Board of Directors of a disaster technology company alongside the former Chief of Staff of FEMA and CTO of Citibank. Paul has spoken at the World Bank on disasters and technology and has been an outspoken advocate for disaster preparedness.

Nicole Freedlander

Nicole is the litigation manager for the firm.  As a litigator she has vigorously represented Floridians against insurance carriers.  When insurance carriers refuse pay, Nicole is there to fight for the policyholder against the insurance giants.

She has dedicated her 25-year career championing the rights of her clients against the insurance industry.  Over the course of her practice, she has obtained millions of dollars in settlements, judgments and jury trial verdicts.  She is an experienced civil trial litigator who has obtained numerous verdicts in jury trials.    Nicole is also licensed as a public insurance adjuster and has the knowledge and skill to adjust insurance claims.    She has extensive experience handling residential and commercial hurricane claims and prides herself on getting additional money that her client deserves.

Nicole earned her law degree at the University of Miami School of Law in 1993 and has committed her practice to successfully adjusting, negotiating, and litigating first and third-party insurance claims.  The key to her success is her focus on preparation, knowledge of insurance and the law.
